Description

This 10oz mug has a beautifully understated elegance that feels both cozy and refined—perfect for slow mornings and quiet moments.

The form is gently curvaceous, with a subtle waist that fits naturally in the hand, inviting you to wrap your fingers around it. The handle is thoughtfully proportioned and smoothly pulled, offering a comfortable, balanced grip that feels just right for a daily-use mug.

The glaze is where this piece truly shines. A rich, wine-plum exterior is softly mottled with fine speckling, giving the surface depth and a tactile, stone-like quality. It reads as earthy and warm, with just enough variation to catch the light without overpowering the form. Inside, the glaze transitions to a darker, smoky tone near the rim, creating a striking yet subtle contrast that frames the drink within.

Set against autumn leaves, the mug feels seasonally timeless—equally suited to hot coffee in fall, tea on a rainy afternoon, or cocoa by candlelight. It’s the kind of mug that quickly becomes a favorite: not flashy, but deeply satisfying, quietly beautiful, and made to be used and enjoyed every day.

Artist Statement

My work is driven by an insistent need to make — to explore, experiment, and stay in conversation with materials. I work across multiple mediums, clay, glass, paint, fiber. I let the process guide the outcome rather than forcing a fixed result. What’s made is often taken apart, reshaped, or returned to the beginning.

I draw inspiration from the natural world and from the quiet details of everyday life — the mundane, the overlooked, the in-between. I’m interested in cycles: forming, breaking down, and becoming something new.

I approach my practice with openness and curiosity, allowing room for wonder, failure, and transformation. What comes before is carried forward. The work evolves through repetition, pressure, attention, and time.

At its core, my work is about staying present — paying attention, working honestly, and honoring change as part of the process. - Sueann Smith
