Description

This 8oz bubble glaze mug feels calm, intimate, and quietly luminous—like a breath held between sips 🍵

The form is simple and well-proportioned, with straight sides softened by gentle throwing lines and a clean, even rim. Its modest size makes it feel personal, perfectly suited for tea, morning coffee, or something you linger over rather than rush. The handle is gracefully pulled, slightly rounded, and comfortably scaled—inviting your fingers in without demanding attention.

The glaze is the true enchantment here. Soft celadon-green tones mingle with milky whites in a delicate network of bubble-like cells, creating a surface that feels both organic and ethereal. The pattern has a natural rhythm—almost like lichen on stone or frost forming on glass—subtle, intricate, and endlessly interesting. Variations in translucency give the mug depth, so it shifts gently as the light moves across it. Inside, the lighter glaze keeps the interior bright and serene.

Set against the autumn leaves, the mug feels reflective and gentle, carrying a sense of quiet craftsmanship rather than bold declaration. It’s the kind of cup that encourages stillness—one you’d reach for when you want a moment of calm, warmth, and simple beauty in your hands.

Artist Statement

My work is driven by an insistent need to make — to explore, experiment, and stay in conversation with materials. I work across multiple mediums, clay, glass, paint, fiber. I let the process guide the outcome rather than forcing a fixed result. What’s made is often taken apart, reshaped, or returned to the beginning.

I draw inspiration from the natural world and from the quiet details of everyday life — the mundane, the overlooked, the in-between. I’m interested in cycles: forming, breaking down, and becoming something new.

I approach my practice with openness and curiosity, allowing room for wonder, failure, and transformation. What comes before is carried forward. The work evolves through repetition, pressure, attention, and time.

At its core, my work is about staying present — paying attention, working honestly, and honoring change as part of the process. - Sueann Smith
