Description

Step into a bit of quiet magic with this striking, one-of-a-kind lidded ceramic jar 🐍

Handcrafted with exquisite detail, this piece features a deep, midnight-blue glaze that shimmers with natural variation, giving the surface a sense of depth and mystery. Wrapped gracefully around the body is a sculpted snake, its form flowing organically from base to lid. The soft, earthy green of the snake contrasts beautifully with the rich blue vessel, drawing the eye and inviting a closer look.

The lid fits snugly, topped with a simple knob that keeps the silhouette clean while allowing the sculptural snake to take center stage. Every curve and texture reflects the artist’s hand—from the subtle speckling in the glaze to the lifelike posture of the serpent as it coils protectively around the jar.

Perfect as a decorative accent, altar or keepsake jar, or a unique storage piece for small treasures, this vessel feels both ancient and timeless. It’s an unforgettable statement piece for collectors and anyone drawn to nature symbolism, folklore, or boldly artistic ceramics.

Artist Statement

My work is driven by an insistent need to make — to explore, experiment, and stay in conversation with materials. I work across multiple mediums, clay, glass, paint, fiber. I let the process guide the outcome rather than forcing a fixed result. What’s made is often taken apart, reshaped, or returned to the beginning.

I draw inspiration from the natural world and from the quiet details of everyday life — the mundane, the overlooked, the in-between. I’m interested in cycles: forming, breaking down, and becoming something new.

I approach my practice with openness and curiosity, allowing room for wonder, failure, and transformation. What comes before is carried forward. The work evolves through repetition, pressure, attention, and time.

At its core, my work is about staying present — paying attention, working honestly, and honoring change as part of the process. - Sueann Smith
