This succulent pot has a wonderfully grounded, elemental presence 🌿
The form is low and gently rounded, with a subtle flare at the rim that gives it an open, welcoming feel—perfectly suited to holding a living plant. It feels stable and intentional, as though it belongs outdoors just as much as on a windowsill or shelf.
The glaze is where it really shines. That deep, oxblood red has a rich, almost velvety depth, broken with darker speckling and soft variations that keep it from feeling flat. The interior glaze shifts dramatically darker—nearly black—creating a striking contrast that adds visual depth and makes the rim feel crisp and defined. Light catching the glossy surface reveals gentle throwing lines, a quiet reminder of the hand that shaped it.
Paired with the fallen leaves and stone, the pot feels autumnal and contemplative—an object that doesn’t compete with a succulent but frames it, grounding the plant and giving it a sense of permanence. It’s the kind of vessel that makes even a small, simple plant feel intentional and cared for.
My work is driven by an insistent need to make — to explore, experiment, and stay in conversation with materials. I work across multiple mediums, clay, glass, paint, fiber. I let the process guide the outcome rather than forcing a fixed result. What’s made is often taken apart, reshaped, or returned to the beginning.
I draw inspiration from the natural world and from the quiet details of everyday life — the mundane, the overlooked, the in-between. I’m interested in cycles: forming, breaking down, and becoming something new.
I approach my practice with openness and curiosity, allowing room for wonder, failure, and transformation. What comes before is carried forward. The work evolves through repetition, pressure, attention, and time.
At its core, my work is about staying present — paying attention, working honestly, and honoring change as part of the process. - Sueann Smith
